The last two days for me were the most exciting days during the spring break．I made a new friend and had a great time playing with her which could be a really wonderful ending for the day offs．
On Thursday morning，I went to the library with mom to return our books．We actually borrowed them only two days ago and haven’t truly finished them．Anyway，this time we came up with some new ones．Torrowed a book about a Chinese girl，written by a woman from HongKong．In the book，she recalled her painful and tragic childhood be-cause of the difficult situation in her family as well as the rejection from her stepmother．I was interested in this book not only because it seemed so affectionate but also because I found Chinese words and expressions in it which made it cordial and similar to me．We borrowed by ourselves on automatic machine by means of self-help instead of checking out at the counter．It was our first time to try that and it was fun．
Unfortunately，we missed the last cam bus．The next bus would be here at least half an hour later．We then went to the mall near the city library．When I found some cards in the market to be fascinating，I de-cided to choose 3 for my friends in China．It was not until that momentdid I notice that cards made merely of paper here were much more ex-pensive than some candies，dolls and even T-shirts on sale．
When I got home，it was already noon．And our telephone rang．It was a friend of my father．She asked whether if she could visit us with her two children．My father said sure．She seemed happy and came soon to gether with her two daughters． The younger one was born here and was only 2 years old while the older one has stayed here for 5 years．The elder one spoke perfect English，and she was outgoing．She always talked to me in English，and I felt shy sometimes that I couldn’t under-stand her．tier morn told us that she was able to speak and understand Chinese though overtimes she was not willing to do so．It seems like aproblem with every Chinese American kids and those who immigrated here at their early age．She was ll this year．And she was in grade 5 in elementary school．Her Chinese name was Qing Wei．We didn’t talk a lot at home．They invited us to their home instead．We agreed．
Her family has been here for almost 5 years and they bought a house here．Her house was located at a good position．It was not a big one，but it looked soft and sweet enough for a family to live．I played for a while with the elder daughter．It was kind of boring at first．We just chatted and did not find many common topics．She was much more out going and loved playing．I thought I was quieter and didn"t enjoy moving much．I just decided to leave when the day was getting dark．Qing Wei seemed passionate．She urged me to stay for dinner and with her such enthusiastic words，I agreed．Later，the playing was more in．teresting．We played chess and watched TV together．I found her a very funny girl who loved snacks something I was also interested in-Distance began to diminish．Despite such a common hobby，the strong personality and individuality she presents undoubtedly reflect tinges of American character that is so strong one could at once distinguish it．I couldn"thelp but he amazed at such a powerful assimilation of culture．In usA，there are tens of thousands of kids like Qing Wei．They don’t and can"t understand Chinese；they have been living in us ever since they were little；they possess characters，worldviews and lifestyles that are obvi-ously native to America．Could they ever truly perceive what Chinese culture and China mean to them just by growing up？Perhaps on their bodies is destined to exist a conflict and crash of two cultures，between a physical structure of an Asian and a mental concept of an American．
After the dinner，the aunt told us that she knew there iS a science station in Cedar Rapids and it was said to be wonderful．She asked us whether if we liked to go with them together during spring break．We a-greed．
