King of the State Qi asked an artist, who was drawing a picture for the king, “What is the most difficult thing to draw?”
The artist answered, “Dogs and horses are the most difficult things to draw.” King of the State Qi asked again, “Then, what is the easiest thing to draw?”
The artist replied, “Ghosts are the easiest to draw. People are familiar with dogs and horses, and see them every day so I can’t draw them as I want. If my paintings fail to resemble them even slightly, people will no-tice it. However, things such as ghosts have never been seen so I can draw them as I wish, therefore they are the easiest to draw.”
