Bian Que, a famous doctor, paid a visit to King Wu of the State Qin. The king told Bian Que about his disease, and Bian Que requested an opportunity to cure the king.
However, the ministers of King Wu said, “The disease of the king is in the front of the ears and below the eyes. A cure may not necessarily help, but merely cause a negative effect that makes the ears deaf and the eyes blind.”
King Wu told Bian Que about this.
Hearing the comments of the ministers, Bian Que was irritated, threw away the stone needle, and said to King Wu, “You should have discussed the treatment with the people who know medicine. If you discuss it with those who have no knowledge about medicine, you will ruin yourself. If you govern the State Qin in this way, the State Qin will soon perish.”
