An immortal came to the human world to test the human nature of the Midas touch. He selected a less greedy person, and provide him an opportunity to become an immortal. However, to his disappointment, every person he had met was so greedy that they were dissatisfied, even though he had changed a huge stone into gold. He was really disappointed, and said, “People are no longer simple and greediness is limitless!”
Later, the immortal came across a person. The immortal pointed at a huge stone before him, and said, “I will change this stone into gold for you.” The person shook his head in refusal. Thinking that the person probably thought the stone was small, the immortal pointed at a larger stone, “I will change this extremely huge stone into gold for you.” The person still shook his head in refusal.
The immortal found the person not greedy at all, and gave him an opportunity to become an immortal. He then asked the person, “You want neither the big gold nor the small gold. What on earth do you want?” The person stretched his finger and said, “I want nothing, but just your finger that changes stones into gold. I want to tie it to my own finger so that I will own limitless amounts of gold wherever I go.”
