fresh fruit and vegetables

月牙形的香蕉乳头样的紫草莓
crescent-shaped bananas mammillary purple strawberries
凉拌的玉兰花瓣酸甜酸甜的
the cold magnolia petals in sauce are sour and sweet
没一点儿醋意
without any taste of vinegar
我们开始喝酒
we begin to drink
喝汾酒竹叶青杏花村
drink Fen spirit，Bamboo-leaf-green Apricot Villiage
喝张裕葡萄酒青梅汽酒
drink Zhangyu wine Green plum wine
喝燕京啤酒我们大碗喝酒
drink Yanjing beer we drink from a big bowl
大口大口的吃水果
we eat fruit with pleasure
我们彼此调侃着说一些
we are ridiculing each other，talking about
不想但又想让别人说的
some messy things
昨天的殠事我们
from the past
幸福的一塌糊涂
so happy that we are in a complete mess
我们幸福无比的
we are immersed，so happily，
沉浸在肥美的想象之中
in glorious imagination
天河作证酒过三旬或四旬
witnessed by the Milky Way after three or four rounds of drinks
我们酒气冲天鬼话连篇
we are filled with a breath strong enough to carry coal and talking nonsense
在酒的作用下
under the influence of alcohol
我们慢慢的变成一条条
we slowly turn out crawling lines of poetry like
蚯蚓一样会蠕动的诗行
so many earthworms
这时的我们孩子一样
at this moment we are like children
沿着土地微微隆起的肚皮
along the belly of the earth rising a little
气喘吁吁地一面打着饱嗝
crawling forward，out of breath
一面往前爬我们爬啊爬
and hiccupping at the same time we crawl and crawl
爬到哪里哪里的土地
the earth where we reach
就变得松软爬到哪里
would become spongy
那里的禾苗就更加茁壮
and the rice shoots there become more sturdy

用结冰的风
the whistle of
吹出可以让狼群
the frozen wind
仰面朝天的
made the wolves
口哨
fall flat on their backs
让男人一样的苍山的
it lies in making the mountainous under jaw
下颚长满
of a man full of
粗壮迷人的
white beard
白胡须
thick and charming
在于把冒着寒气的温度
it lies in changing the cold temperature
由气体变成固体
into solid
变成裸体的
into an artistic conception
哲理诗一样
as a naked philosophical poem
看似透明
seemly transparent
但百求无解的意境
but no answer after hundreds inquiries
在于让空荡荡的

大野之上
only an eagle flying

and a rabbit running

To Ye Lu
烟花三月在扬州
in early spring in Yangzhou
叶橹告诉我赏桃如品诗
Ye Lu tells me that appreciating peaches is like reading poems
是文字以外的功夫
it is an ability beyond words
在最迷人最浪漫的季节
in the most charming and romantic season
除了美酒还要有
besides good wine there should be
先生欲言又止我心领神会
your swallowing back words on the tip of your tongue，and my understanding it without being told
因为今天扬州的桃花
because there are thirteen kinds of peaches
有十三种
in Yangzhou today
十三种桃花你明白吗
“There are thirteen kinds of peach flowers，do you understand
可能还要多瘦西湖边
maybe much more than that on the side of Slender West Lake”
七十有余的叶橹先生
Mr.Ye Lu in his seventies
用不到六十岁的男中音
told it to me
对我说声音洪亮
in a baritone sounding not more than sixty
势可穿墙音质凝
loud and clear，sonorous and forceful
尾音后收且有磁性
the tune is cohesive and the last syllable is closed and magnetic
搞过声乐的我心里明白
I，who am a trained vocalist can see clearly that
这一切足以说明
all this suffices to show that
先生的心脏还很年轻
the heart of Mr.Ye Lu is very young
先生的心理年龄可能
and his psychological age is probably
要比他的实际年龄
much younger
年轻的多得多
than his real age
毛桃红叶桃垂枝桃
wild peach，red peach，weeping branch peach
一串红是烟花三月下扬州的
are common ones
鼎盛时代文人骚客们
seen by poets and men of letters
能见到的一般树种而
in the ancient early spring when poetry thriving
雪碧桃绯牡丹菊花桃
snow peach，peony peach，chrysanthemum，peach
美人桃人面桃冰心桃
beauty peach，human face peach and ice-heart peach
才是今天扬州桃花的花中极品
are the best among the peach flowers in Yangzhou today
这犹扬州八怪之所以叫八怪
It is like the famous Eight Wizards of Yangzhou
既与本人成名早晚也和后人
The title signifies both their early fame and
认可有关是一个道理昔日
the recognition given to them by later generations
金迷纸醉的秦淮河畔
the luxury and dissipation of the Huai River side
真真的美女如云也不止就
is really full of beautiful women not limited to
一十二位金钗
twelve beauties
先生用一种介于扬州方言和
in a special tune between Yangzhou dialect
北方普通话之间的特殊语调说
and mandarin，Mr.Ye said
这是毛桃顾名思义
“this is the wild peach just as its name implies
最纯朴最接近桃的本质的桃花
it is most simple and the closest to the original peach flower
花瓣粉嫩的直接瓣单层
the petals are simply pink，a single layer
如大运河畔的农家女子
like the farm girls along the Grand Canal
骨子缝里都透着春天的清香
who give off the fragrance of spring and earth from their head and toes
和泥土的芬芳但这种清香始于
this fragrance begins with
大野道得自然而天成
the wild and agrees with nature itself
是固嶶含一丝苦味儿
therefore it tastes a little bitter
也就是我们常说的
that is usually called ‘mellow’”
咁说这话时
when saying this
先生怅然若思中饱含深情
Mr.Ye is in meditation with deep feeling：
还记得人面桃花相映红的
“do you remember the Tang Poem The girl’s face and the peach flower reflect each other’s glow？
唐人诗句吧这就是人面桃花
this is the ‘face’peach flower”
先生指着一片枝丫柔曼
pointing at a shady peach orchards prettier
比掩面的少女还要娇美的
than the veiled girl Mr.Ye said
荫荫桃林说扬州特有的桃花
“the peculiar face peach flower
和美人桃一样都是扬州的特产
and the beauty peach flowers are both special local products of Yangzhou
花形婀娜多姿花色艳丽
they are graceful in shape，slender in figure，bright in color
花瓣复且富贵花香极是馥郁
the petals look noble and are found in several layers，and smell fragrant
形似宫中美人蕾大
they are as pretty as the beauties in the palace the buds are as big
如扬州漆器中的鸟卵实为
as the eggs painted on Yangzhou lacquer ware
花中极品只可惜古人命短
